Winded
Miami, FL
Winded began in a Florida State University dorm room in 2016 as the solo project of Thrin Vianale (they/them), gradually expanding into a full band by 2018. Winded's debut LP, Schwartz Goes to Heaven, was recorded in 2018 with David Settle (Ex-Breathers,The Fragiles). From the start, Vianale’s songwriting has been marked by a balance of effusive harmonies and striking shifts that induce catharsis, love, and rage. Dan Goldin (Exploding in Sound Records) described in Post-Trash review as “gorgeous melancholy and a knack for surprises.”
After hitting the road for their first three-week tour, Winded went on to appear at SXSW and the Community Records Block Party, building a reputation for immersive, dynamic live performances. Their second full-length, Schwartz Provides (2022), recorded with Dan Maddalone and largely self-tracked by Vianale, deepened that foundation of layered vocal interplay paired with an instinct to disrupt and rebuild form.
In 2024, Winded entered a new phase as they began pushing their sound into heavier, faster territory. The release of their Double Single, recorded with Jonathan Nuñez (Torche, Shitstorm) at Sound Artillery Studio, marks a decisive shift. Goldin said of the singles that, “Vianale and co. bring a dense fuzz and muscular resolve to the enormous melodic hooks of both “Wish on the Mezzanine” and “Mercy 27”. And that “the band sound positively revved up, as sugary and sweet as they are crushing and distorted.”
Fresh off appearances at The Fest, Winded continues to evolve, leaning further into rhythmic experimentation and increased tempo as they work on LP3. With their stand-alone single "DOUBLE MEMOIR,” just released on a Hot Stuff Records compilation, titled, “Severe Weather,” it’s prevalent that Vianalle impresses the intention to push their sound forward.
